CAMILA MACEDO BOTH, MD

Research Associate Professor of Surgery; Director, STI Biorepository

Education:
MD, School of Medicine of Catholic University of São Paulo, Brazil

Research Area(s):
Human Immunology

T cell immune response to viral infection (EBV); innate immunity; tolerogenic dendric cells (DC); and humoral and T cell allo-immunity.

The major areas of my research involve: (1) The discovery of novel approaches to control viral immunity, in particular against Epstein Barr virus, in solid organ transplant recipients and its relationship with the development of Post-Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disease (PTLD); (2) To study the innate immunity (monocytes) and cross-reactivity to allo-immunity; (3) To determine the phenotype and function of tolerogenic DC following infusion of donor-derived tolerogenic DCs in transplant recipients, a potential approach to minimize/wean the use of immunosuppression. (4) To study the contribution of T follicular helper cells in the development of donor-specific antibodies after kidney transplantation and its relationship to humoral and T cell-mediated rejection.
