Disparity on human leukocyte antigens (HLA) between the donor and recipient is the main barrier to the long-term survival of allogeneic transplantation.  Recently evidence indicated that immunity to self-antigens may contribute to allograft dysfunction.  Dr. Xu’s main research interest is immune risk assessment before and after organ transplantation.  Specifically, he is interested in 1) detecting donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies (DSA) to facilitate organ transplantation, diagnose and treat rejections, 2) roles of autoantibodies in organ transplantation and native organ-specific diseases.
